Giving

Honor or donate for a special person, family, or organization and beautify Baker Park with a traditional park bench or living tree.

If requested or appropriate, your honoree will receive a letter of appreciation with the name of the donor(s). Benches or trees may be given by an individual(s), organizations, or businesses. Donations will be acknowledged in the Friends of Baker Park Newsletter.

A member of our group will work with you to find the appropriate location for your tree or bench location in accordance with the master plan for Baker Park, created jointly by Friends of Baker Park, Inc., and the City of Frederick.

Tree ($1,000)

Your gift creates a lasting memory, enhances Baker Park and is fully tax-deductible.

Trees will be installed within one year of your donation. All trees will generally be planted between October 15th and the end of April.

Parks can be a tough environment for trees. Baker Park is no exception. It is one of the most used public parks in the City of Frederick’s park system. The Friends do as much as we can to ensure donated trees have what they need to thrive, but we ask for your assistance.

Each tree includes the cost of a treegator. A treegator is a slow-release watering bag for newly planted trees. Friends of Baker Park will attach the gator in spring for fall and spring planted trees. If you choose you may fill the gator on your tree once it has been attached. It’s recommended that the gator be filled every week. After two (2) years, the gator will be removed by Friends of Baker Park. For fall planted trees it is recommended that the tree be watered once upon planting until the gator is attached in spring. Friends of Baker Park and the City of Frederick do not water the donated trees.

Some trees will also receive a wire mesh around them for protection against beavers in areas we know to be prone to beaver activity.

Trees will be maintained by the City of Frederick as necessary. Trees cannot be replaced as a result of vandalism or animal damage. All trees will be replaced if necessary for up to two (2) years after the original planting date. Plaques or markers cannot be placed by trees.

Benches (6 foot – $3000 or 8 foot – $3500)
Benches are warranted against defects in materials and/or workmanship. According to the DuMor Site Furnishings Standard Warranty, there is also a limited 20-year warranty against structural failure of steel bench frames or complete steel bench assemblies and cast iron bench supports. This warranty does not cover items that have been subject to misuse, neglect, accident, or vandalism. If the bench has to be removed for aesthetic or safety reasons, the donor will be informed and will be given the opportunity to replace the bench at the donation level that is stated in the most current Donation Policy. The City of Frederick may temporarily remove benches during park improvement projects if necessary. Friends of Baker park will do our best to inform you if your bench needs to be temporarily removed.
